TWO MAN TEAM FLIGHTED MATCH PLAY RULES 2009
The field is limited to the first sixty-four two man member/member teams to sign up. The sign up deadline date is Wednesday January 7th.
The entry fee of $12 per person is due by January 7th with a check made payable to PPMGA.
The format is the better ball of one team versus the better ball of the opposing team.
The number of flights will be determined by the size of the field. Flights and seeding within the flights will be determined by the teams total instant handicap index in effect on January 8th. If there are insufficient teams to complete a flight, byes will be used to complete it. Byes, if needed, will be awarded to the team(s) with the lowest combined handicap index within the flight. There will not be a pay out for byes.
There will be a playoff of the flight winners to determine an overall team champion. The overall championship team will have their names added to the clubhouse plaque.
Matches will be handicapped as follows:
1) By using the USGA instant handicap in effect on the day before the match.
2) The maximum handicap difference between partners is 10. As an example, if one team members handicap is 15 and the partners is 26, the team member with the higher handicap is limit to 25, the 10 stroke maximum.
3) In keeping with the USGA recommendation, strokes will be given at 80% of the handicap difference between the player with the lowest handicap rounded off to the nearest whole number. For example, if the player with the lowest handicap is 12 and another player has a 15 handicap the player with the 12 would get no strokes while the player with the 15 handicap would get 2 strokes and so on for all players in the match. The USGA tee adjustment method will be applied to players competing from the black tees.
USGA rules for match play apply.
Matches MUST to be completed as scheduled below;
1st round on or before Saturday, January 24th.
2nd round on or before Saturday, February 7th.
3rd round on or before Saturday, February 21st.
4th round on or before Saturday, March 7th.
1st round of flight playoff on or before Saturday, March 21st.
2nd round of the flight playoff on or before Saturday, March 28th
Overall Championship round on or before Saturday, April 4th.
If you can’t meet this schedule don’t sign up.
The players on the top line of the Match Play Pairings Chart are to initiate the scheduling of the match within the specified time period for completion. However, both teams are responsible for completing their match within the scheduled time frame. If you have not heard from the top seed, contact them or the match play committee within three days of the start of the allotted time period. Any team who is more than five minutes late for a match is subject to disqualification. A team may complete with one member. No substitutions can be made after the pairing charts are posted. The committee does not intend to grant any extensions. Failure to complete a match by the scheduled date will result in forfeiture by one or both teams at the discretion of the MGA board of directors.
Golf Shop personnel will be responsible for preparing the scorecards. After each match the scorecard must be turned in to the Golf Shop. Golf Shop personnel will verify the match and post the results. The Golf Shop personnel have the sole responsibility to place the winning names on the Match Play Pairing Chart.
The Match Play Parings Chart indicates the date by which each match must be completed and the amount of Golf Shop credit awarded to the winner of the match. There will not be a pay out for byes. The Golf Shop credit will be placed in the winner’s account at the conclusion of the tournament.
Each player must post their score from the match according to the USGA Handicap System. If a player picks up you, record the score that you most likely would have made on that hole. Any questions on posting of scores will be addressed by the MGA Handicap Committee.
If you have any questions please do hesitate to contact one of the following:
Bob Luff, Jim Bush, Al DiNapoli, Curt Norton or Jim Skiver
LUNCHEON POLICY
The Board of Directors of the Pelican Pointe Mens Golf Association is clarifying the policy concerning lunch on League meeting days.
If you participate in the golf event and if for any reason you cannot attend the luncheon, you will still be responsible for the cost of the lunch/dinner. We submit a number to the dinning room, based on the sign up sheet and are charged for that number of meals.
If you are unable to stay for the meal, you may go in and the staff will box up your meal to go.
This policy will go into effect for the August luncheon meeting.

2009 MEMBER/GUEST RECOMMENDATIONS
The M.G.A. Board has adopted modifications for the 2009 Member/Guest Tournament. We conducted a public meeting to solicit input for change. We received 12 specific suggestions at the meeting and numerous additional comments on the driving range and in the grill. The overwhelming sentiment was to increase participation as much as possible while maintain the range of activities and quality of the event. The Board incorporated several of the suggestions to create the following modifications.
The first change is to increase the 2009 Member/Guest Tournament to 72 teams placed in 12 six-team flights. This is the maximum number of teams we can address. This will cause us to add long tables for dining on Saturday night in the Venetian room. The tent option is not viable due to rain collecting under the tent walls creating a lake effect on the tiles in the courtyard. This option allows us to maintain the quality of the event with the same functions that are presently offered in the event.
The second change is to immediately create a rotation system that will allow players to participate 4 out of 5 years with significant notice of the year the player will sit out. This will entail conducting a public drawing to place all of the 2008 participants plus the first 12 players from the 2008 waiting list in a rotation, 1 through 4. The remaining players from the 2008 waiting list will be placed in rotation 5, which means they will not be guaranteed a spot in the 2009 event. They will be guaranteed a spot in the 2010 event and for the following 3 years. The public drawing must be detailed to not only place each participant in a rotation, 1 through 5, but also assign number 1 through 18 within each rotation.
The third change will allow a guaranteed player an option of not participating for one year due to an emergency. This request must be placed in writing. This emergency spot would be filled from the waiting list with prior knowledge that this is a one-year temporary assignment. If there is no waiting list, temporary spots will be filled in rank order from the rotation that is not participating in that year’s event.
The fourth change places the 2007-08 and the 2008-09 Board members in rotation one. In the future, if Board members are not in a guaranteed rotation, they will be placed at the top of the waiting list.

WEATHER ALERT PROCEDURES
The following procedures apply to all PPMGA events:
If the lightning alert sirens are sounded (one long blast) during a PPMGA tournament, play will stop immediately and everyone will seek cover.
All players must remain off the course until the all-clear siren sounds (several short blasts), then resume play. If the all-clear siren does not sound within 45 minutes, play is cancelled. If it is a tournament with a luncheon following play, lunch will be served at noon. If there are several stoppages in play, members of the Board participating, in conjunction with the golf staff, will make a decision on the continuance of play; and if necessary, lunch will be delayed to accommodate all players.
Current “rain check” procedures from the Pro Shop will apply.
